It's Arrived...

This is a quickie little post because I have a million and one things to do today...but I had to take the time to share this!

When I arrived home today, I was greeted by a little surprise in my mailbox - I was so excited! You see, on Mother's Day I ordered a necklace from Crystal Beutler and have been waiting ever so impatiently for it to arrive!

Here's what I found when I tore into the package...and I did TEAR into the package!
And when I opened that little package of sweetness, I smiled for this is what I saw...

It's been in my hot little hands for only an hour or so, but I think it's already become my new favourite!
All is indeed well...

Junky to Funky!

I'm linking this post to Funky Junk Interiors.

I'd like to introduce you to the girl behind the metamorphosis...my 7 year old daughter, Elle. You must first know that Elle is anything but a girlie-girl. You will not find anything pink in her closet, unless it was put there by mistake! She is my tom-boy and I love her!
The little inspiration behind the big metamorphosis! ~Elle

Align CenterElle moved away from the pink-paradise that is her sister's bedroom and into her own digs last summer. As with all decorating projects around our home, it has been a work in progress. We began with a '50's (I think!) vanity that I purchased for $15 at a local Goodwill store. Unfortunately, I have no picture of the piece in it's sad state, but imagine if you will egg-yolk yellow paint accented with black sponge marks! She was a beauty!

Soon after I brought it home, my husband (bless his soul) spent hours sanding the yellow and black gunk to reveal the bare wood beneath. His original thought was to stain the vanity brown...so he did...
Something's still not quite right here - in fact, it's still downright awful!

Since it wasn't quite what I had in mind (okay, it wasn't even close to what I had in mind!) I set to work refinishing the vanity - take two! I resisted the temptation to purchase an endless supply of spray paint and decided to use some remaining paint from another project. The top of the vanity was less than perfect so I solved that little glitch by purchasing some adorable (but not girlie) fabric that picked up on the other colours in her room. Add a few new drawer pulls, an antique chair and voila...
Elle's very own creative space.

Just for interest sake - here's what else you will see in her room.

And so the metamorphosis is complete ~ for now!

Nurturing a Kind Heart...

Today I visited Lisa Leonard (here). What a wonderful person! As I read, I thought about my first post of the 2010...Happy New Year! How am I doing with "my plans'?

Cherish little messes (and big ones alike) because my kids are healthy enough to create them...still working on this!!

Make noise for the hockey and ringette goals even when they're scored before 7 am...It's break-time from ice sports in our house - and truth be told, I mourned the end of the season! But, I was there when those goals were scored and I'll be there in a few short months when it all begins again!

Bloom where I'm planted because it's where I am right now...everyday I think about how fortunate I am to have the life I have...every single day.

Learn about Pokemon and engage in real conversation with my 10 year old enthusiast...work in progress...Did you know that Pikachu evolves into Raichu?? Consider yourself in the know!

Laugh at spilled milk and burps at the dinner table...and there have been plenty of spills to laugh at!

Run, run faster, run farther and enjoy it...yes, yes and...usually!

Enjoy movies and quite moments with my husband...I prefer enjoying movies with my eyes closed...I'm famous for lulling off to dreamland as the opening soundtrack begins!

Celebrate strong wills and feisty personalities...everyday! At home and at school...we're working towards directing the 'will; for the good of others!

Volunteer for the sake of helping...Yes!

Shop online...ummm...of course! Lately I've focused on vintage finds and meaningful pieces, like the All is Well pieces I ordered from Crystal Beutler.

Listen...love...laugh...give...take...share...smile...enjoy...engage...words to live by.

Today, tomorrow and everyday...is the perfect day to think about "nurturing a grateful heart."

I'm grateful for sisters...

I'm grateful for father-son time...

I am grateful for my beautiful family...

I am grateful for curious minds...

All is well...

At the Kindy Mother's Day tea two students read What Moms Can't Do by: Douglas Wood. Outside the context of a Mother's Day Tea it would just have been a cute little book...but read during the 'tea' it was touching! Take a peek for yourself here...or read these excerpts to see what I mean...

There are lots of things that regular people can do, but moms can't.

Moms can't wait to wake kids up in the morning.

When they watch movies, they need protection from the scary parts, and they can't sit very long without someone on their lap.

Moms also can't let go of a hug without a kiss. Or two. Or nine.

No wonder they need someone to look after them, I mean, after all, they're just moms!

So how many tears were shed at the 'tea'? None...but...I was close to tears for much of the afternoon! At times I was so emotional words escaped me...like when she took my hand and guided me to my seat...when she climbed aboard my knee and snuggled in to my neck...and when she opened the hand-built jewelry box to reveal a beautiful flower brooch that she proudly announced she had created in my favourite colour - orange...or when she sang along with her classmate, the lyrics "Mom's are special, Mom's are nice."...maybe when she brought me the tissue-wrapped water painting...but mostly it was when she whispered "Happy Mother's Day" in my ear, unrehearsed, pure love.

Mother's Day was a beautiful day...Ukrainian dancing...handmade (with love) presents...flowers from my sister...shopping on Whyte Ave with my girls....the dinner the boys made while we were out...homemade greek pizza...dessert! What a beautiful day! All is well...so well in fact that I've ordered my own version of Nie's necklace here so I can be reminded everyday of how lucky I am. What more can I ask for?

Daddy and Ava enjoying the fire...she was so disappointed the next morning when she awoke and realized she fell asleep before she could roast her marshmallows!

Cheers!

Theresa

Mommy's Day is around the corner...

In a few minutes I'm heading out to enjoy a Mother's Day Tea in Ava's Kindergarten classroom. How many tears will be shed? Come back to find out:)
